No se puede decir NICE TO KNOW YOU
-We are going to meet very important people  = Vamos a conocer gente muy importante
-I met my wife at the beach  = Conocí a mi mujer en la playa
-Where did you meet your boyfriend  = ¿Donde conociste a tu novio?

-Let´s meet at five o´clock  = Quedamos a las cinco
-Where can we meet?  = ¿Donde podemos quedar?
-How about meeting at the bar?  = ¿Que te parece quedar en el bar?
-We´ll meet you at the station  = Nos vemos en la estación

Como dije antes, KNOW es el verbo conocer y saber
-I know that girl  = Conozco a esa chica
-Do I know you from somewhere?  = ¿Te conozco de algun sitio?
-Of course you know me!  = Desde luego que me conoces
-I´ve known Susan since we were kids  = Conozco a Susan desde que eramos niños
-I didn´t know that  = No sabia eso
-What are you going to do? I don´t know  = ¿Que vas a hacer
-Do you know what you´re doing?  = ¿Sabes lo que haces
-We knew that you were working in China  =  Sabiamos que estabas trabajando en china

KNOW tambien se usa con los pronombres relativos HOW / WHAT / WHO / WHERE / WHOSE / WHY / WHEN + el verbo en infinitivo
-I don´t know how to change a tire  = No se como cambiar una rueda
-I wish I knew what to do  = Ojala supiera que hacer
-I don´t know who that man is  = No se quien es ese hombre
-They don´t know where to go tonight = No saben a donde ir esta noche

385. The Apple tree and the bird

Aqui, otra historia para leer y aprender vocabulario.
Para mejorar tu ingles hay que:

Leer libros en ingles
Ver peliculas
Escuchar canciones
Trabajar en un pais donde se habla en inglés
Y desde luego, hablar en ingles siempre que puedas, o en grupo o con un profesor nativo o bilingue.

After flying around from one place to another without stopping, the bird saw an apple tree and rested on a branch.

The apple tree didn´t seem to be very happy today, so when it saw the bird resting on its branch, it said: “Don´t you have another place to sit on?”
The bird jumped with surprise and answered:

Relax, I just want to rest for a short while.
What´s the matter with you Mr. Apple tree?”
And the apple tree answered: “My life is boring. I´m always here stuck to the ground and I can´t move. I´m just here for birds like you or other animals to come and pick my fruit”

The bird listened very attentively and when the tree finally stopped complaining, the bird told the tree:
“I on the other hand, think otherwise. I believe that your existence makes more sense than others.

Since you were small, you grew up to simply generously give your fruit to others without asking anything in exchange.
There can´t be a more full and happy life than yours!,” the bird told the apple tree.
You might be right, but I would prefer to be a bird”, said the tree.

“Birds are very wise. You accept things as they are. It doesn´t matter if it´s sunny or rains…. you fly whenever and wherever you want.
Not like humans who are always waiting for something to happen….and if nothing happens, they get depressed

The moral in this story is:
Just like birds and trees, it´s always better to accept and be grateful to what life has to offer.
This will make us all be happier

384. Reading text:The Arrogant Lion

The mighty Lion woke up and felt like walking across his territory to have a look and see what was happening on his land.
He walked with his head held up high and roared very loudly so that everyone would know that the king and sole owner of the land had arrived to claim allegiance from everyone.

As the heat was rather stifling, the lion made its way to a nearby river to quench his thirst and of course not worrying at all that anyone would ever think of defying him.
While heading to the river, the lion came across a huge deadly cobra and asked it:
“Tell me, who is the king of the jungle?”
“You without any doubt my master” answered the cobra as it began to flee as fast as it could in order to escape from the lion´s anger.

On arriving to the river, the lion saw a powerful twenty foot crocodile who was sleeping in a pool of muddy water.
The lion sacred the shit out of the crocodile and asked it: “Who is the king of the jungle?”.
Why the hell are you asking me that? You know very well that it´s you, my king”

The lion continued on his journey and saw that up ahead under a tree was the biggest elephant the lion had ever seen.

And of course the lion asked the elephant the same question.
Instead of pleasing the lion as the other animals had, the magnificent elephant wound its trunk around the mighty lion and threw him against a tree with a loud thump.
More surprised than hurt, the lion said; “Okay, I understand why you did that, but there´s no need to get so angry simply because you don´t know the answer”

The moral is that this often happens in everyday life.
There are people who are very arrogant. They think they are the cream of the crop and they believe that they are always right, but if someone thinks differently….. it´s always the other people who are wrong.

AWAKE es un verbo irregular: Awake / Awoke / Awoken

I awoke suddenly due to a loud noise  = Me desperté de pronto debido a un fuerte ruido

Lo que pasa es que se suele usar mas el verbo compuesto (phrasal verb) WAKE UP

- I woke up suddenly due to a loud noise
- I woke up with a hangover  = Me desperté con una resaca

- Are you awake?   =  ¿Estás despierto?
- Stay awake = Mantente despierto
- You kept me awake all night with your snoring  = No me dejaste dormir toda la noche por tus ronquidos
- After drinking a coffee, I was wide awake  = Después de tomar un café, estaba totalmente despierto

Por tanto, se usa mucho WAKE UP
- Time to wake up  = hora de despertarse
- What time did you wake up?  =  ¿A que hora te despertaste?
- I woke up very late  = Me desperté muy tarde
- I hate waking up in the middle of a dream  =  Odio despertarme en medio de un sueño

Una expresión popular es:  "RISE AND SHINE"  = HORA DE LEVANTARSE
Otra expresión es: "WAKE UP WITH A START" Se usa cuando de pronto de despiertas por un susto o un ruido
I heard someone shout and I woke up with a start  = Oí alguien gritar y me desperté de pronto

Tambien se puede decir: WAKE + PRONOMBRE COMO OBJETO
- Wake me up at 7.00  =  Despiértame a las siete
- Rememeber to wake your sister up at 6.00  =  Acuérdate de despertar a tu hermana a las seis
- Did you wake your father up?  = ¿Despertaste a tu padre?
- Don´t wake me up. I don´t have to go to work today  = No me despiertes. No tengo que ir al trabajo hoy.
Why didn´t you wake me up?  = ¿Porqué no me despertaste?
- Sorry to wake you up   =  Perdona por despertarte

Y recordar que otro verbo compuesto es GET UP y significa LEVANTARSE

- It´s not easy to get up early Monday morning  = No es facil levantarse temprano el lunes por la mañana

GET UP tambien significa levantarse del suelo o la calle
- Get up off the floor  = Levántante del suelo
- If you fall down, just get up  = Si te caes, simplemente levántate
- Can you help me get him up?  = ¿Me puedes ayudar a levantarle?

So, the question is why it´s so hard to WAKE UP IN THE MORNING....

Perhaps it´s just a mind problem! If one sleeps well, then it doesn´t matter what day it is.
If you wake up, then you´re not dead... and you should be happy to live another day and do whatever you have to do.
It doesn´t matter if have to go to work. Everyday is a different day.
Everyday is a good day to wake up, make yourself a cup of coffee or tea and start the day with energy and in a good mood, because it´s a NEW DAY.

It´s also better to go to bed at the same time every night.
Don´t eat too much and go to bed with a full stomach. If you eat a lot, wait at least two hours before going to bed.
If you go out, don´t get drunk or you will wake up with a hangover...and that´s really awful.
Don´t go to bed stressed or angry.
Reading a little in bed can make you sleepy and turn off the brain.

hangover  = resaca
hard = duro / deficil
it doesn´t matter  = da igual
should  = debería
whatever  = lo que
it doesn´t matter  = no importa
good mood  = buen humor
too much  = demasiado
at least  = por lo menos
going to bed  = acostarse
go out  = salir
get drunk  = emborracharse
hangover  = resaca
awful  = horrible
make you sleepy  = te da sueño
turn off  = apagar

Here are some funny photos about waking up.

380. The Martians have landed (PART 2.)

The Martians have landed (PART 2)

The Martians have landed (PART 2)
My friends from Mars were happy. Everyone who rides motorcycles on Mars now has the leather motorcycle jacket which I had orginally bought for them.
They were very nice to me and took me with them back to their planet.
One day I had a walk with my dog enjoying the beautiful Martian landscape.
The Martians have landed (PART 2)
The next day, they gave me a motorcycle to try out. They love to ride this kind of bike (see the picture below).
Later after dinner and what I liked the most, they gave me super powers because I had been so nice to them.
It´s awesome what I can do.
For example, I can:
-          Travel with my bike all over the world and visit different galaxies
-          I am immortal and cannot be killed
-          I´m able to change things in the world which I don´t like
-          I can speak any kind of language
-          I can travel underwater in any sea and ocean
-          I can become invisible
My friends the Martians are very nice and friendly. They are probably the most advanced race in the cosmos.
They live in peace and enjoy life much more than Earth. Therefore, there are no wars and crimes.
When a Martian child is born, they are born with a special trait.
If a child likes music, they will be the best musicians in the world.
When they are 17 years old, they can come to Earth and become famous.
Elvis Presely was one of them. Now he´s back on Mars living another different life doing other things he likes.
One thing he really likes is riding his Harley motorcycle. He´s the big boss of the Space Travelers.
Elvis arranges very special tours anywhere in the world
The Martians love riding route 66, going to Yellowstone, the Grand Canyon….and especially spending a week in Las Vegas, because Elvis is an expert.
The Martians have landed (PART 2)
Martian people don´t need to work. There are no politicans and no presidents.
They don´t need any money to live and don´t need to buy anything.
They have everything they need to be happy, so they simply enjoy life doing what they are born to do. Just live.
They can also choose to live wherever they want.
As they love water, many of them prefer to live in exotic places with beautiful beaches.
If you go to Malibu, Hawaii, Bali, Ibiza or Formentera, I´m sure you can meet a Martian there.
As a matter of fact, I´m in Formentera at the moment with my Earth motorcyle. Isn´t she a beauty?
The Martians have landed (PART 2)
It´s a fantastic island to ride a motocycle and go swimming or going underwater with my cycle in the transparent blue waters.
Here I am riding a Martian motorcycle. I only use it when I´m traveling in space.
The Martians have landed (PART 2)
